Family Holiday in Pollensa

We loved this article we found this week. Daily Mail writer Jane Fryer tells of the unexpected delights she discovered whilst holidaying in Pollensa with a group of friends and a young baby.
A pleasure to read, and a great recommendation for anyone who thinks Majorca may not be for them.

Spotlight On Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the island's capital - its cultural and commercial centre. The city also attracts a great number of visitors, not to mention the 10 million visitors who pass through its airport each year.

The city itself has plenty to offer, packed with history and full of narrow, interesting streets. The city has lots of great shops, museums, galleries, cafes, bars and restaurants, and a significant number of luxury hotels.

More Crackdowns On Majorca Bucketheads

Hot on the heels of news of Majorca's ban on buckets of booze on the beach, The Guardian reports that the crackdown continues with the authorities introducing a sliding scale of penalties for drinking on the beach, and particular attention is being paid to litter louts leaving empty bottles behind.

Reigning In The Bucketheads

Fancy a bucketful of booze on the beach? Not in Majorca, not any more anyway....

In an effort to stem the growth in drunken tourists, fondly referred to as "bucketheads," the Spanish island of Mallorca has banned the drinking of alcohol from buckets on the beach.

Sounds fair enough to us. There are plenty of bars and organised beach / boat parties for those looking to party all day and night. The beaches are for everyone, and should always be safe and welcoming for families, children and the general public.

Interesting Facts About Majorca

Here's an article I enjoyed when I stumbled upon it this week, 22 Interesting & Curious Facts about Mallorca  from www.mallorca-livethedream.com

Some interesting facts, such as:

The name Mallorca derives from the Latin 'insula maior', meaning 'larger island' because Mallorca is the largest island of Spain. This later became 'Maiorica', eventually ending up as Majorca for the people of the UK, and Mallorca for just about everyone else.

Save Cala Blanca!

Cala Blanca between Port d’Andratx and Camp de Mar is an unspoilt bay in Mallorca. Let's hope it can stay that way... Mallorca Daily Photo Blog reports that the area is being considered for development, amid much protest from those looking to protect the area, which is at the edge of the Serra de Tramuntera mountain range, recently awarded Patrimonio de la Humanidad World Heritage Status by UNESCO as an area of great natural and cultural significance.

Fun packed party holidays

Magaluf isn't for everyone, we understand that. (The great thing about Majorca is that it has so many contrasting aspects, so there is something for everyone, whether you're fond of sightseeing and cultural excursions, or you simply want to lie on a beach and sip cocktails.)

For many, Mallorca's main draw is the nightlife, focused around south-west Majorca's party resorts - notably Magaluf, often referred to as Shagaluf. The resort attracts more than its fair share of hen and stag parties and is notorious for its hedonistic nightlife.

Magaluf's main street, Punta Ballena, known more commonly as 'The Strip' is lined with bars offering deals and discounts on cocktails and beer by the bucket, and the clubs attract top name DJs.

Party Packages To Magaluf

One great way to sample the delights of Magaluf is through an organised package provider.

We think Magaluf Takeover is one of the better deals - the packages include accommodation and a host of other stuff such as free entry to clubs, parties, discounted drinks etc.

There are pre-defined 'weeks' when Magaluf Takeover trips take place, bringing together like-minded party animals from all over the world to party. Some weeks coincide with the reknowned Mallorca Rocks music festival, which includes live performances and sets from big name acts from the music world.
